Carpet Diem

Carpets and area rugs are items that truly add comfort to your home. In some parts of the world, where the climate is mostly cold, carpets are a necessity. Some people even choose to have wall-to-wall carpet installed in their homes. Not only does it literally adds warmth to the home but it gives the home a cozy feel. It's my dream to have our home carpeted in the living room area. Carpets or area rugs of today have stepped up to add design and style to your home. It can be a focal point in interior home designs.

There are lots of things to consider when choosing the right type, style and color of carpet for your home. The type of carpet you need for your home depends on the traffic that the room receives. Durability of the carpet should be considered in these areas. The denser the yarn tufts, the more durable it is. The longer the piles of yarn tufts, the easier for them to crush.

Carpet fibers differ as well in properties. Wool is more resilient than Olefin. Olefin is resistant to stains, fading and moisture but it tends to crush easily. Wool on the other hand, can withstand more shock but is only moderately resistant to stains.

Now don't be confused in choosing the style for your carpet. There's only two styles, but 4 types under each so there's 8 all in all. Cut Pile Style has smooth, texture, twist and shag. It's easier to understand when you see the picture. Loop Style has level loop and patterned loop. The smoother the appearance of yarn tufts, the more formal looking. So the Shag style carpet which has higher tufts looks more casual.

The other two are patterned and printed carpets. Or combination of patterned and printed. Printed carpets make focal points to plain and neutral designed home interiors. Neutral and earth - tone carpets put contrast to home interiors and flooring that have busy designs. This makes for more classic look.
